ElectReduce: A real time electricity consumption monitor using mobile phones

Abstract

Electricity consumption is one of the main world problems. The level of consumption is increasing annually. Electrcity consumption and production are one of the main reasons of air pollution. Kuwait has a special problem when it comes to electricity consumption. For the small rich country, electricity has always been a problem due to its severe climate. In this paper, we introduce ElectReduce which is a mobile application that aims at reducing electricity consumption by providing live feedback through mobile phones. The application rewards the users using a loyalty system which encourages subscribers to reduce electricity consumption.
