Abstract

This paper presents the development of a new simulation testbed for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) designed for event or target tracking in surveillance applications. In this work, we propose an open-source simulator that has been developed to support event tracking challenges in wSN s. The structure and features of the simulator are presented and three example investigations are demonstrated: area coverage vs. tracking effectiveness, deployment nodes vs. clustering quality and node density vs. sensor node isolation. In the experimental work, three independent experiments we conducted each one ran 1000 sample points of simulated events. The results of these experiments were analyzed and showed that the simulator is effective to address challenges related to tracking problem and has potentials to investigate other wSNs challenges.
