Abstract

Many of old people live alone, some of them are suffering from disability, making it harder to take care of themselves. Any delay in taking their medicine or even taking it at the wrong time may cause or raise potential health issues. In this paper, the design of a Smart Medicine Box (SMB) is introduced. The proposed SMB can be used by patients as well as nurses or caregivers in order to monitor and ensure that the correct dosage of each medicine is being taken at the right time. The SMB provides visual and audio notifications to alert the user when a certain medicine is to be taken or refilled. Furthermore, a mobile application is designed to send SMS messages and email notifications to the patient and the caregiver.
