Abstract

Museums, castles, and aquariums are some of the many tourist sites visited once exploring a new place. However, visiting a tourist site without the aid of a tourist guide; some would feel lost and confused. In this work, we introduce the implementation of a tour-guide robot using Kinect technology to ease the process of tourist guides. The robot will replace the current human guide. The robot will follow the tourists wherever they go, avoiding obstacles in its way, and provide information about the place once the tourists have given it the command to do so. The robot detects different objects, thus providing information about them, using RFID tags. In addition, these tags will help identifying the robot's location with the use of a monitoring website. In Kuwait, the lack of tourist's guides is common and the goal of this work is to give the tourists a smooth and pleasant experience at the touristic areas.
